Wed 24 Feb 2010
A recent survey of managers within the clinical research market shows an expected period of significant growth for recruiting both permanent and contract staff during 2010, particularly the hiring of clinical study management, clinical monitoring and SAS programming staff.
In January 2010, on the back of robust results for both their annual science and engineering sector market trends surveys over the last 3 years, SRG launched their first survey focussing on the clinical research sector. This survey was created to explore which functional areas are predicting growth in 2010 and which key skills will be in demand over the coming year. This survey examines the market as a whole and by various skill areas such as data management, clinical study management, SAS programming, medical liaison, medical statistics, clinical monitoring, pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs.
On average the sector can expect to see a 22% net increase in available permanent jobs in the market, with a 9% increase for contract roles. Pharmacovigilance and medical statistics are the hardest skill sets to recruit for with clinical monitoring being the easiest. In terms of transferable skills, companies are looking for individuals with a global perspective, with Asia being a prominent target area for business growth and candidate speciality.
